Fort
Azrou Usequeden, North Africa, Marocco
Military Architecture
According to the archaeological inventory of 1948, Patrice Cressier noted that there was a “Portuguese fort” in this place. Nonetheless, this may have been a simple lookout tower, connected to a broader defensive system. Regarding its location, all we know is that it was set near Medir (N2 road, between Al Hoceima and Melilla).
Other entries also deal with this interpretation of Cressier that considers the place as having been created by the Portuguese (Azrou Maheli and Beni Boufrah).
