According to Patrice Cressier based on the answers to a 1948 archeological survey, this place had the ruins of a “small fort built by the Portuguese”. It may have been nothing more than a lookout tower, connected to a broader defensive system. The only geographical reference that can presently be identified is that of its proximity (2.8 km) to Laari Ouchene, about 26 km from the coast of the Mediterranean, with the geographical coordinates 35º 01’ 36,56” N/3º 39’ 40,09” W. It is not very far from Medir, a city in the interior, located on N2 road, between the port cities of Al Hoceima and Melilla. Other entries can be consulted regarding Cressier’s claim for Portuguese origins (Azrou Maheli and Beni Boufrah).
