Doorways and Doors

Housing

In this city architectural elements that show the Portuguese presence are still visible. This is the case of the doorways of the medina of Safi. One of the recognized valuable legacies in this city is the variety and richness of its doorways, which have led authorities to conduct a survey of the types in existence; among them were the “doors of Portuguese tradition”, exemplified by the doorway of house no. 2 at Street Es-Samâa. This doorway had already been mentioned in 2000 by Pedro Dias, who claims he identified around one dozen doorways of manueline lines that bear witness to the continuous presence of Portuguese master builders and stonemasons who shaped these doorways “in the Portuguese fashion”.
