This fort is situated in the Vila of Preguiça south-southeast of Ribeira Brava and is currently in ruins. Some artillery survives. The fort contains a marker commemorating the 500th anniversary of the birth of the Pedro Álvares Cabral. Another more recent one designed by the architect Pedro Gregório Lopes marks the 500th anniversary of Cabral’s visit to São Nicolau Island, where he took on water in 1500.
