The fortress was divided into two parts: the Bateria Real and the Bateria do Príncipe. There are pictures of it from the mid-twentieth century. Its ruins, consisting of a walled precinct with a rectangular plan and a portico topped by two baroque scrolls, were recently rediscovered.
