Despite being a small coastal city of a solid, historical urban layout with a dominant 19th century architectural style – therefore featuring the above-mentioned series of central districts occupied by traditional architecture (the chalets, the two-storey houses with veranda, etc) – the city also has some buildings and urban complexes from the 20th century with a value or originality as a whole worthy of note. Examples of public and amenities architecture, such as the former School for Arts and Trades, with a basic modernist design and the old Miramar swimming pool can be found on the coastal road of the bay; in this group, it is also worth mentioning the Clube Náutico, between the coastal road and the sea, with a pool and diving tower (work prior to 1966, very dilapidated in 2011).
