This building is attributed to Lucínio Cruz, dating from 1950s. It represents the transition in public architecture from the more formalist, neo-traditional style to a more geometrical sort of modernism. A broad tiled roof (traditional) is one characteristic of these works, the projecting eaves having been replaced by a straight reinforced cornice (modern). A notable feature is the tower which punctuates and dominates the side of the building.
