Chapel of Our Lady of the Mountain/Our Lady of Immaculate Conception
Caála/Kahala [Robert Williams], Huambo, Angola
Religious Architecture
A few kilometres away from the centre of the town of Caála, this example of a chapel in the Portuguese rural regional style, made of stone and whitewashed, was dedicated to Our Lady of Immaculate Conception and is known as Senhora do Monte (Our Lady of the Mountain). It was recently restored (information from 2009). It features an ogival arch in the porch and side abutments in exposed stone with a rustic treatment. Its silhouette is marked by a small lateral belfry tower.
