Some buildings of mixed function for trade and housing should be mentioned, located in the town’s former trading centre, with clear Indo-Pakistani influence, borrowed by the Indo-Portuguese in conjunction with the context of Swahili and Islamic culture. They are mainly noteworthy as a whole, as notable as rare, marked by the rows of arcades sheltering the verandas of a number of terraced houses (former Queen Maria Pia Street).
